Love is in the air for The Chester Hotel dolphin

The Chester Hotel in Aberdeen is celebrating Valentine’s Day in style this year and to mark the occasion a specially decorated Valentine’s dolphin has been painted in the run-up to the romantic weekend.

This unique artwork is all thanks to talented artist and The Chester Hotel restaurant supervisor Nora Bandyopadhyay, who also decorated the Christmas dolphin in December last year which gained quite a celebrity status. To celebrate Valentine’s Day, the new dolphin (it’s not Archie!) is now resplendent in a smart suit and bearing a rose in his mouth.

Originally from Latvia, Nora started work at the hotel in April last year and has already made an impression with her artistic streak which she developed during time spent qualifying as a fashion designer.

She says: “The first Christmas themed Dolphin has been attracting some amazing interest and some people have visited the hotel just to take a picture of it to add to their dolphin collection. It’s lovely to be involved with this project and I’m really grateful for the opportunity to use my creativity and let the paint brushes and ideas do the work. I have already outlined some great ideas for The Easter Dolphin makeover.”

Owner Graham Wood says: “We purchased The ARCHIE Foundation Dolphin at the main auction but because of its significance we obviously would not paint over him and he takes pride of place between special occasions at the front of the hotel.  That said we really wanted to have a dolphin that we could decorate to help us celebrate different occasions throughout the year so we purchased a blank dolphin which we now have Nora skilfully decorate and put on display for special occasions. This time the dolphin is wearing his heart on his sleeve in celebration of all things romantic in the run-up to Valentine’s Day.”
