Winning paintings of The Chester Hotel’s art competition go up for auction at Maggie’s pop-up art extravaganza
Aberdeen’s luxury hotel, The Chester Hotel, has announced the two winners of its children’s art competition after receiving over 100 submissions. The winning paintings will be framed and displayed at Maggie’s pop-up art extravaganza taking place at the hotel on Tuesday 15th and Wednesday 16th November. Guests at the event will be invited to blind bid for each painting, with all funds raised going to Maggie’s Aberdeen.
Pupils were invited to create a painting of their interpretation of ‘a beautiful day in Aberdeen’. Evie Arthur, 10, from Mile End Primary school won the primary category and Shannon McGregor, 14, from Meldrum Academy won the secondary school category and were chosen by The Chester Hotel and Maggie’s team for their creative version of the theme. The winners have also been offered a complimentary Sunday Brunch for four at The Chester Hotel’s IX Restaurant to celebrate their achievement with their families.
The pop-up art extravaganza will feature over 50 works from local and internationally renowned artists, ranging in price from £50 - £15,000. Works featured include those from Scottish artists Iain Faulkner and Gerard Burns.
Gillian Wood, owner of The Chester Hotel, says: “We are overwhelmed by the calibre of entries we received from extremely talented pupils. It’s fantastic to see how the kids have all individually interpreted ‘a beautiful day in Aberdeen’. We’re inviting all guests to Maggie’s pop-up event to bid on the pieces and help us raise additional funds for such a worthwhile cause, as well as giving these budding artists some well-deserved recognition.”
Maggie’s pop-up art extravaganza takes place at The Chester Hotel on Tuesday 15th November (10am – 5pm) and Wednesday 16th November (10am – 8.30pm). Entry is free and visitors will receive a 15% discount to dine in IX Restaurant or IX Bar during the event.
