Cabinet Secretary, Richard Lochead, visits city’s Grassmarket restaurants during Scottish Apprenticeship Week
To celebrate Scottish Apprenticeship Week (Monday 29th February – Friday 4th March) Mr Lochead, the Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs, Food and Environment, visited a trio of Grassmarket restaurants including El Toro Loco, O’Oliviero (formerly Gennaro’s) and Mamma’s Pizza on Wednesday, 2nd March.
Mr Lochead met with owners Paul and Caitriona Duncan, El Toro Loco head chef Greta Franchinni, O’Oliviero chef Angelica Espoito, and Mamma’s Pizza supervisor Naomi Symonds to discuss the success of their ongoing apprenticeships.
Scottish Apprenticeship Week, organised by Skills Development Scotland, takes place from Monday 29th February – Friday 4th March and aims to showcase the positive impact modern apprentices have on business and industry, and the value they bring to employers and to their own job prospects.
El Toro Loco, O’Oliviero and Mamma’s Pizza are renowned Grassmarket restaurants owned by Paul and Caitriona Duncan. Paul says: “We are delighted that Mr Lochead visited our restaurants, especially as they are the only restaurants to be visited during Scottish Apprenticeship Week.
“At O’Oliviero, El Toro Loco and Mamma’s Pizza we pride ourselves on providing our team with the training, support and encouragement they need to start their career in the hospitality industry. The feedback we’ve received from our team is that these apprenticeships not only teach valuable skills, but also greatly improve confidence.”
